About David Laws

I’m David Laws, a mortgage loan officer with Fairway Home Mortgage serving Salado, Belton, Temple, and Central Texas.

I got into mortgage lending because I like taking care of people and solving problems. Home financing lets me do both.

Some people have straightforward W2 income and a straightforward mortgage. Some don’t.

Maybe you’re self-employed and your tax returns don’t tell the whole story. Maybe you’re a business owner with plenty of money in the bank but not much traditional monthly income. Maybe you’re retired with significant assets but little earned income. Maybe you’re buying an investment property that doesn’t quite fit the normal mortgage box.

Those are the loans I enjoy.

I work with conventional, FHA, USDA, and VA loans, as well as specialized programs like bank statement loans, asset-based loans, and DSCR investor loans to build strategic financing solutions for people needing extra intentionality and care.

A little about me

Before becoming a mortgage loan officer, I spent six years working in church leadership and operations at Grace Church Salado. I got to be an air traffic controller working with people, operations, & finances.

Before that I worked with the Better Business Bureau, where I came alongside over 1,200 businesses throughout Central Texas to help them solve problems and grow their company.

I’m a proud Texas A&M aggie and also did graduate studies at Cornell University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

I love spending time with my 3 incredible kids, getting outside to rock climb, hike, and fish, coaching soccer and baseball, and enjoying cold brew coffee (no matter the weather outside).

The 5 kinds of people I particularly enjoy helping

Self-employed borrowers

Business owners often have complicated finances that don’t fit neatly into traditional underwriting. Bank statement loans and other financing strategies can sometimes provide a better way to structure a home loan and qualify complicated income for Bell County Business owners who’s income doesn’t fit in a neat box.

Retirees and high-net-worth borrowers

Just because someone’s retired from having a traditional income doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t afford a mortgage. Depending on the circumstances, asset-based loans can be a great option. There are lots of retirees settling in Salado, Round Rock, and Georgetown who can use asset based income to qualify without depleting their savings.

First-time homebuyers

You don’t need to know how mortgages work before you call me. That’s my job. I love using my background in ministry to sit down with folks and walk alongside them through the biggest financial decision of their lives. I tend to help a lot of UMHB grads who are planting roots in Belton and Temple.

VA loans

I’ve got a soft spot for helping folks who have served our country. VA financing can be an incredible benefit, but that doesn’t mean every VA loan is the same. I like helping veterans in the Fort Hood Community understand their options and make the most of an incredible benefit they’ve earned.

Investors

I love helping investors figure out strategic ways to build their real estate portfolio- whether it’s rental properties for UMHB students in Belton, residents at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, or military families in Killeen.

Borrowers with complicated situations

Multiple businesses. Investment properties. Recent career changes. Unusual income. Complex assets. Properties that don’t fit the standard mold.

Those are the conversations I like having.

Why I do this

I’ve lived in 16 places in the last 18 years. I understand all of the excitement and chaos and challenges that come with moving and finding a new home.

I love coming alongside families and helping them feel clear and confident and excited in the midst of a process that can be intimidating and confusing. I view this as a ministry where if I do my job well, I can help set families up for the next 30 years.

So that’s what I’m trying to build:

A financing business where people can trust who they’re dealing with, where complicated financing gets treated like a problem to solve rather than a reason to say no, and where your loan officer remembers your kids’ names.

I’m David. I do home loans on a first-name basis. Hear what Bell County families have said about working with me on Google
